I’m a journalist and a graphic designer living in San Francisco. I write about colleges and design interactive graphics as the West Coast correspondent for The Chronicle of Higher Education. I love typography, barbeque, and the strange and wonderful state of California.
I am most interested in how great journalism can thrive on the internet. The possiblities for new forms of storytelling, muckraking, and data visualizing are astounding. The mixed results so far reflect an ingrained culture divide between journalists, techies, and designers. Thankfully, this is ending. It’s a tremendously exciting time to be a journalist.
Before writing for The Chronicle, I designed and built websites for Good Housekeeping, UC Berkeley, and the composer John Adams. I’ve also interned as a reporter at the Anniston Star in Alabama, where I covered immigration, transportation, and the occasional cattle auction.
